Beginning of the criminal story:

• January 25, 2005, was the day. The next day was Republic Day. Preparations for this were being made vigorously all over the country. Prayagraj was then called Allahabad. Here too, people were busy with their respective work. Meanwhile, gunfire broke out in Sulemasarai, one of the old areas of the city. Some people surrounded a vehicle and were firing at it. Hundreds of rounds of firing had taken place before anyone could understand anything. The whole body of the people riding in the car got riddled. The vehicle that was attacked was none other than Raju Pal.

Who was Raju Paal?

• Raju Paal was the newly elected MLA from the Allahabad West Assembly seat. Raju Paal himself was running Qualis. Sitting next to him was Rukhsana, the wife of a friend whom he had met near Chowfatka. Sandeep Yadav and Devi Lal were also in the exact vehicle. Behind the Scorpio were four people, including driver Mahendra Patel, Omprakash, and Saif of Neevan. There was a soldier in both cars.
• Even while being taken to the hospital, the bullets were chased.
• When the miscreants stopped the firing, the supporters took Raju Paal in a tempo and started taking him to the hospital. When the attackers saw this, they thought Raju was alive. Immediately the attackers put their car behind the tempo and then started firing. He followed the tempo for about five kilometers. When Raju Pal reached the hospital, he had been shot 19 times. Doctors declared him dead. Raju married Pooja Pal only ten days back.
• Raju was the MLA of Bahujan Samaj Party. But the government in UP was of the Samajwadi Party. Mulayam Singh Yadav was the Chief Minister. The then Samajwadi Party MP Atiq Ahmed was accused of Raju's murder. Raju's wife Pooja Pal got a case filed naming several people, including Atiq, his brother Ashraf, Farhan, and Abid.
• Here, the news of Raju's murder spreads like a fire in the city. Raju's supporters came out on the road. In no time, the whole town was burnt. Demolition, arson, and stone pelting started at various places.

To understand the reason behind this incident, we have to know what happened.

Let's start with Ateeq Ahmed:

• Ateeq Ahmed was born on August 10, 1962, in Allahabad. Father Firoz Ahmed used to run the family by running a tonga. Atiq started studying in a school located near the house. When he reached 10th, he failed. Meanwhile, he has come in the company of many gangsters in the area. To get rich quick, he started committing crimes like robbery, kidnapping, and extortion. In 1997, the first case of murder was registered against him.
• At that time, there used to be a fear of Chand Baba in the old city of Allahabad. Chand Baba was considered a big goon of Allahabad. Common public, police, and politicians everyone was upset with Chand Baba. Atiq Ahmed took advantage of this. There was a nexus between the police and politicians, and in a few years, he became a bigger crook than Chand Baba. The police who had instigated Ateeq have now become the thorn in his side.

Entry of Ateeq Ahmad in politics:

• Somehow in 1986, the police arrested Atiq. He took advantage of his political reach on this. The call reached Delhi, and Ateeq was out of jail. Atiq entered politics in the year 1989 after his release from prison. He was announced to contest assembly elections from Allahabad City West seat. Here he had a direct fight with Chand Baba. A gang war started between the two. The whole of Allahabad used to tremble due to the terror of Atiq. Capturing, looting, snatching, and killing became common for him. Because of this, he won the election as well. After a few months, Chand Baba was murdered in broad daylight at the crossroads.

MLA from Allahabad West seat for five consecutive terms:

• When Chand Baba was killed, not only in Allahabad, Atiq Ahmed's coin started running in the world of crime in the entire Purvanchal. In 1991 and 1993 also, Atiq won the elections as an independent. In 1995, his name also appeared in Lucknow's famous guest house scandal, and after that, in 1996, he also became MLA on an SP ticket. In 1999, they contested from Pratapgarh on an Apna Dal ticket and lost. Then in 2002, he became MLA for the fifth time from his old Allahabad West seat.
• It is a matter of August 8, 2002. Then BSP ruled the state, and Mayawati was the chief minister. Atiq was caught by the police in some cases and was sent to jail. He was being taken to court on August 8 for production. Meanwhile, he was attacked with bullets and bombs. Atiq was injured in this, but his life was saved. Atiq had then accused the BSP supremo and the then Chief Minister Mayawati that she wanted to get him killed.

Candidates were not found against Ateeq:

• Atiq had become synonymous with terror. Her terror started troubling familiar people as well as political figures. His fear had become so much that anyone from the western part of the city was afraid even to contest elections against him. In the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, Atiq Ahmed won the election from the Phulpur seat of Allahabad on an SP ticket. During that time, Atiq was the MLA from Allahabad West seat. From this seat, he started preparing to contest his younger brother Ashraf.

From here, Raju Pal enters Atiq's life:

• Before knowing Raju Paal's entry into Atiq's life, learn a little story of Raju Paal. Raju Pal was also a resident of the western part of the city. At that time, Raju was also accused of involvement in incidents like robbery and snatching. It is also said that he was once close to Atiq Ahmed, but later there was a tussle between the two. In 2002, Raju also entered politics. Since then, enmity has started between the two. In 2004, when Atiq Ahmed became the MP from Phulpur, his younger brother Ashraf contested from the Allahabad City West seat. BSP has given a ticket to Raju Pal against Ashraf. Raju Pal won this election.

Raju Pal married three months after becoming an MLA:

• Raju Pal married Pooja Pal on January 15, 2005, three months after becoming an MLA. Raju Pal was murdered on January 25, 2005, ten days after the wedding. The names of Ateeq and Ashraf came to the fore in this massacre. In the by-election that followed, the BSP fielded Raju's wife, Pooja Pal, but she lost. Ashraf won the election. However, in the elections held in 2007, Pooja Pal won.

Atiq has more than 100 criminal cases:

• Atiq was free till 2007. The government was then of the Samajwadi Party. But after this, his bad time started. Mayawati came to power in the year 2007. When the SP came to power, Ateeq was thrown out of the party. On the other hand, Mayawati started Operation Ateeq. Ateeq was declared most wanted by keeping a reward of 20 thousand.
• More than 100 criminal cases have been registered against Atiq Ahmed, including murder, attempt to murder, Fraud, kidnapping, and extortion. He is accused of murdering Chand Baba in 1989, Nasson in 2002, Ashraf, a BJP leader close to Murli Manohar Joshi in 2004, and Raju Pal in 2005.

Atiq Ahmed has been in jail since 2017:

• Atiq also contested the 2012 assembly elections but lost. Pooja Pal, the wife of Raju Pal, defeated him. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections also, he contested from the Shravasti seat on a Samajwadi Party ticket but lost to BJP's Dadan Mishra at that time. In December 2016, Mulayam Singh gave a key to Atiq from Kanpur Cantt for the 2017 assembly elections.
• On December 14, Atiq and 60 supporters were accused of vandalizing and assaulting the Shiat College in Allahabad. Atiq had gone to the college to represent a suspended student. He also threatened the college authorities. The video went viral.
• This matter was going on that on December 22, Atiq reached Kanpur with a convoy of 500 vehicles. At that time, this convoy of Atiq had made headlines. Meanwhile, Akhilesh Yadav became the president of the party. Atik was thrown out of the party. In the Shiats College case, the High Court ordered the arrest of Atiq.
• In the year 2017, Yogi Adityanath became the new CM of UP. Keshav Prasad Maurya, an MP from the Phulpur seat, became the deputy CM. He had to leave the Phulpur seat. By-election was announced for the seat. Atiq Ahmed sitting in jail, filled the form of an independent election. Although again defeated. After this, in the 2019 general elections, he contested against Modi on the Varanasi seat from jail. This time again, the bail was forfeited.
• There has been a lot of trouble since the formation of the Yogi government.
• As soon as Yogi became the CM, the investigation of many cases against Atiq started. Since then, bulldozers have been running on Atiq's illegal properties worth more than Rs 1600 crore. Atiq's brother Ashraf was also jailed in the Mariyadih double murder case. Atiq has four sons. Two are minors. Both of them are locked in the juvenile home. One of the sons had an encounter after the Umesh Pal murder case. One son is in jail.
• Atiq's elder son Umar is accused of kidnapping Mohit Jaiswal, his father's business friend, on December 26, 2018. Mohit also told its story after being released. It was alleged that he was taken to Deoria jail and beaten up.

Connection between Umesh Pal's murder with Raju-Ateeq is:

• His relative and friend Umesh Pal was the main witness in the 2005 murder case of MLA Raju Pal. Umesh had advocated the Raju Pal murder case from the Lower Court to the Supreme Court. For this reason, he had open hostility with the Atiq gang. Umesh, who had gone to testify in court, was abducted on February 28, 2008. A report was lodged against many in the kidnapping case, including Ateeq and his brother Ashraf. There was testimony in the same kidnapping case last Friday. Umesh was also a lawyer. He had gone to the district court for testimony in advocate's uniform along with his two gunners, Sandeep Nishad and Raghavendra Singh.

Home attack on Umesh Paal:

• At around 4.30 pm, he left by car for his home in Sulemasarai, Dhumanganj. When Umesh got down after stopping the vehicle at the gate, the miscreants who had already ambushed him shot him. After falling due to a bullet injury, Umesh got up and ran inside the house. The soldiers engaged in his security also ran inside the house to save him.
• However, the attackers, showing audacity, entered the house and fired continuously with automatic weapons. During this, the miscreants also hurled bombs. The barrage of bombs and bullets shook the area. The attackers fled from there on a bike. Umesh Pal, Constable Sandeep, and Raghavendra were lying bleeding.
• All three were taken to SRN Hospital. Where the doctors declared Umesh Pal dead after about an hour. Doctors have also confirmed the death of security guard Sandeep Nishad, a resident of Azamgarh. Given the apprehension of the ruckus, the force of more than a dozen police stations of the district was called to SRN Hospital as a precautionary PAC was deployed in Dhoomanganj. Umesh's family members accused Atiq Ahmed and his gang of carrying out the incident.

Atiq's murder

• Mafia Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were murdered while being taken to Colvin Hospital late on Saturday, April 15, for a health check-up in police custody. The bike-borne miscreants posing as media personnel near the Medical College shot him dead.
